Book review – The Unwanted Guest

I’ve just finished reading The Unwanted Guest.  The story is based in a hotel called Mitchell’s Inn which is in a very remote area where people go for a weekend away to chill out and relax. Not to die.  Author: Shari Lapena Wow that a book! A murder mystery is my favourite type of book and this one did not disappoint. I read it in two evenings, as I just couldn’t put it down, the author has you gripped by the end of the first chapter with the well written book allowing your imagination to take over making you want to keep on reading. One morning after a violent storm…

Tips on travelling with highly anxious children

Both of my girls have high anxiety due to their autism. Travelling is not easy. The unknown, the what if’s, the noise, smells. The no guarantees about anything can get too much. Both of my girls have a travel bag each. It contains personal items that help keep them calm as much as possible. These bags go everywhere with them. Trains especially cause a heightened sense of anxiety. The first thing we do is sit down together and plan the route there and back if it is a day trip. We try to give more than one plan, just in case plan A goes wrong for example, delays, cancellations or…

    My holiday bucket list

There are not many places I want to see in the world. A few with my girls and a few just with my hubby. My girls both have high anxiety and have autism. Some places I want to visit my girls don’t want to go or to be selfish, I want to experience without worrying about how my girls will react to noise, smells, senses etc. They want to stay with my mum. I am happy with that as I want them to be happy too. Sometimes it’s just nice to get away for a few days. Mr B and I went away on our honeymoon on our own for…

Book review – Killing Floor, Jack Reacher.

Killing Floor is the first book in the Jack Reacher series. I have watched the films and wanted to start reading the books. Only recently have I given myself time to read again, I did miss reading. Written by Lee Childs, Killing Floor introduces Jack Reacher’s character, an ex military solider with no fixed abode who likes to travel. It see’s him being arrested while eating breakfast for a crime he didn’t commit, his relationship with a female character including a few bedroom scenes 😉 and how he came to find the real culprit. There is also a few twists which I love in a story. With a book it…

    Still reading

I love to read. I always have but I never gave myself time to read. I was always too busy doing something else. I missed it. Since I started making time for me, I have realised that I do have time to read. Every evening before bed I can read. I can read when the girls are occupied. I am finally back into finding books, the joy they bring and the time they give me to shut off from the world. I am still reading but will be popping up a few reviews on here shortly.
